Ian Hu

As the face of Claims Prevention and practicePRO at LAWPRO Ian speaks, writes and blogs about practice management, claims prevention and lawyering issues. His mandate is to help you succeed in the practice of law and avoid malpractice claims. Having had experience in private practice under his belt with various sizes of firms, Ian has seen the trials and tribulations lawyers go through. As a former Vice President of the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers he has mentored young lawyers and advocated for hundreds of lawyers and students as a group. Ian also has an interest in promoting diversity in the profession and has sat on various advocacy committees.

David Tsai is an Associate in the Toronto office of Miller Thomson’s Labour and Employment Group.  He practises all aspects of labour and employment law, including discipline and discharge, employment standards, occupational health and safety, workplace safety and insurance, collective bargaining, human rights and wrongful dismissal issues.  David also has experience advising clients on the labour and employment issues arising from corporate reorganizations and mergers and acquisitions.

David has represented clients before a variety of courts and tribunals, including boards of arbitration, the Ontario Labour Relations Board, employment standards referees and the Ontario Superior Court of Justice.

Prior to joining Miller Thomson, David summered, articled and practised labour and employment law in the Toronto office of a global law firm.  David also has experience working on the management teams of two major law firms, specializing in legal recruitment, compliance and other professional development initiatives.

Toronto lawyer and litigator Flora Poon graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Commerce and subsequently completed the joint J.D./LL.B. program at the University of Windsor and the University of Detroit Mercy, receiving both American and Canadian law degrees. She was called to the bar in 2008 after articling with a boutique law firm in downtown Toronto where she was hired back as a litigation associate. Flora joined Devry Smith Frank LLP (DSF) in 2010.

Flora has extensive experience representing clients of all shapes and sizes ranging from individuals, small businesses, medium-sized and large commercial landlords, title insurers and chartered financial institutions. She has attended on many motions, examinations, mediations, pre-trials, arbitrations and trials and has spoken before Deputy Judges, Masters and Judges of the Small Claims Court, the Superior Court of Justice and the Court of Appeal.

Flora is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, The Advocates’ Society, the Canadian Bar Association and the Ontario Bar Association. In her spare time, Flora is an avid soccer player and volunteers with the CNIB.

Brian Chung is an associate and member of the Litigation Group at Aird & Berlis LLP. He was a summer student and an articling student at the firm prior to returning as an associate.

Brian’s practice focuses on corporate and commercial litigation, labour and employment law, quasi-criminal regulatory matters and financial services litigation.

Certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada as a Specialist in Civil Litigation, he is a frequent lecturer in Canada and the US on class actions and litigation-related matters.

Since 1994 he has served as Editor-In-Chief of Canadian Cases on the Law of Insurance. Published since 2011 by Carswell-Westlaw, Won launched the Kim Orr Class Action Monitor, a bi-weekly reporter that provides updates and commentary on developments in the Canadian class actions bar. The Monitor is widely available in both print and online format in Canada, the US and internationally.

Won currently serves on the Board of Ecojustice Canada. He is the Past Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Royal Ontario Museum and the founding director of the Korean Canadian Lawyers Association.
